Unfounded Movie Review: Bruno

Posted in Movie Reviews by Zach on July 12, 2009

I had high expectations for Bruno going into the theatre, since I really got a kick out of Sacha Baron Cohen’s last movie, Borat. Bruno didn’t fail to deliver some laughs, showcasing the priceless reactions of unsuspecting people to Bruno’s escapades across America.

However, I felt that many parts of the movie became so extreme to the point of being more disturbing than funny. Some parts made me worry about what we now think of as funny in the world today.

Overall, this film wasn’t nearly as funny as Borat, since the story wasn’t as plausible. Bruno was pretty much the same formula foreign-journalist-hilariously-meanders-through-a-country-he-doesn’t-understand movie that Borat was, only Borat was pulled off much better. 3.75 out of 5.
